An intake manifold composite save about 5.5 pounds (2.5 kg) the weight of a product comparable in aluminum. Also has a relatively small surface area irradiated to help maintain the excellent noise characteristics of vibration.
An integrated head / exhaust manifold design saves about 13 pounds (6 kg) from the motor in comparison with a comparable motor with separate head / exhaust manifold.
The cylinder heads have four valves per cylinder with dual overhead camshaft incorporating infinitely variable cam removal.
A drive shaft made of forged steel provides optimum resistance to the lower end, while the connecting rods are composed of metal powder that has a higher proportion of copper, which makes them stronger and allows them to be lighter.
The pistons are cast from lightweight aluminum and feature a polymer coating to reduce friction on the skirts, and full floating pins, which also help to reduce friction. Less weight in the piston reciprocating means less mass in the engine, which in turn means less inertia and greater operating efficiency.
The oil pressure operated squirters immerse the bottom of each piston and the wall which surrounds the cylinder with an additional level of cooling, which reduces friction oil.
An oil sump is more rigid than the molten aluminum to improve the stiffness of the propulsion system and reduce the vibrations of the vehicle. It is fixed to the bell transmission and the engine block, eliminating the points of vibration. Cast aluminum dampens internal engine noise better than a traditional dish of pressed steel and has a more rigid structure.
Optimized injectors flow and exhaust pipes integrated or butts promote the reduction of emissions.



To help achieve its performance targets, engineers redesigned Cadillac SRX exhaust system with two runners from the engine to a collection point further back in the vehicle. The diameter and length of the pipes are specifically adapted to improve the torque at low speeds from 1,200 to 3,000 rpm.
Discharge high pressure pulses of each of the cylinders of the engine are programmed to get to this point of collection so that the phase together in a precise manner. This effect tuning, said scanning literally strip exhaust gas from the engine synchronizing pulses of high and low pressure of each cylinder. The maximum torque is now produced in a very low 2,400 rpm and stays high all the way through 5,300 rpm. The improvements in torque and power is achieved while maintaining quiet operation.

LFX The motor is coupled with the Hydra-Matic 6T70 electronically controlled six-speed automatic transmission with tap up / down control of the driver. A wide overall ratio spread of 6.04:1 allows running "strong" first and overdrive "high" speed to cross the road at low speed. The acceleration is maximized, as is the fuel economy. The engine noise is lower during the navigation. Thanks to the diffusion of variations (6.04:1) first gear is very high, which provides a rapid acceleration from standstill. Sixth, however, is an overdrive ratio, maintaining the engine speed as low as possible to turn the motorway, which reduces the friction losses of the engine and improve fuel economy.
